Paintings By Artist Chris Daynes

Chris Daynes is a well-established contemporary oil painter. Coastal scenes in Sussex and Norfolk, large skies, London, Venice and South of France. We have represented Chris for over a decade and offer a selection of his work, accept commissions. Further work available on request.

Chris' colour is subjective but it naturally tends to be on the cool side.

He often confronts a subject and wonders how on earth he is going to make anything of it, or even how to start. He likes and values that insecurity which protects him from the formulaic and ' this is always how I do it'...school of thought.

The downside of that thinking is that it can take time to get a painting going on a track that excites him and he wont pursue it until it does. There has to be the initial spark of excitement to ignite the whole. He battles with the first stage until he sees the spark of enlightenment. He needs the embryonic painting to talk back to him and not remain silent.

He must have a dialogue with the thing. He needs the board to wake up and argue with him. When that starts, he is in business. He also thinks its not wise to jump into a painting too fast. He stands back, looks at his subject until he decides exactly what interests him about it, and make the painting about rather than blandly painting everything just because its there.
