Scenes Of West Africa By Jeffrey Pratt
Jeffrey has enjoyed several wonderful trips to the Gambia. Fruit seller girls on the holiday beaches... spectacular fishing beaches, brightly coloured boats, sea spray, women and men at work, busy, busy. fish everywhere. Arab trader buying.. powerful smells of fish laid out to dry.. sensory overload. His idea of heaven and hopefully his paintings convey all this.
Walking In the Water - Gambia
The weight of these fishing baskets of wet fish is colossal! One fishing lady gestured to Jeffrey to lift it up. Red-faced, he barely managed it!
( note on the reverse is another painting of the River Thames and St Pauls in the background. This is a technique that Jeffrey used to employ in his earlier work - ' Two for the price of one'.
